The French-German engine of united Europe should not only continue functioning, but should also speed up. Today we need this pair, which should make responsible decisions about Europe. These decisions should be made in dialogue, in understanding and consensus with all. This is what Head of State Rosen Plevneliev said in Paris, after he held talks with the President of the French Republic Francois Hollande.

The trade between Bulgaria and France has been worth more than one billion euros in the past ten years. It has increased by 61.2 percent in the same period, and the French investments in Bulgaria exceed 1.3 billion euros. This is the information President Rosen Plevneliev provided at a meeting with representatives of the French business, organized by the French-Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce. The meeting set the beginning of the Head of State’s official visit to Paris. The French Republic is Bulgaria’s strategic trade partner and our country has attached priority importance to the development of the bilateral relations, Rosen Plevneliev emphasized.

"Now it is the time when the EU should draw its conclusions, should learn the lessons from the mistakes we have made. Currently we have to focus on what is important for our future. We should remain united, we should place an extra dose of trust in the EU, we should launch new integration projects."

The Federal Republic is the biggest trade market for Bulgaria and is always among the leading strategic investors in Bulgaria. In only three years – from 2012 onwards – the bilateral trade has increased by 1.3 billion euros and reached 6.3 billion euros in 2015. 5,000 German companies are active on the Bulgarian market and 1,200 of them have their representations in Bulgaria.
