INTERNATIONAL CYRILLIC FORUM

9 March 2026 | 11:11

The third International Cyrillic Forum, organised by President Iliana Iotova, will take place on March 25 and 26. The forum, entitled "Spiritual Heritage in the Digital Age," is under the auspices of the National Commission of the Republic of Bulgaria for UNESCO, with the cooperation of the Ministry of Education and Science and the support of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.

As Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Iliana Iotova organised two international conferences on the Cyrillic alphabet. The first International Forum on the Cyrillic Alphabet, "... And We Have Given Something to the World," held in 2022, brought together prominent scholars from 12 countries. Its focus was on the contribution of the Bulgarian state to the creation and spread of the Cyrillic alphabet and its mission to connect the East and the West.

The second International Forum on the Cyrillic Alphabet "Alphabet. Language. Identity", held in 2024, focused on the importance of Slavic heritage, its preservation and dissemination in the modern world, as well as Bulgaria's key role in the creation of the third Christian civilisation – the Slavic one. The forum, which took place in Sofia and Plovdiv, was attended by over 30 renowned Slavic scholars from 11 countries and Bulgaria.
