Bulgaria attaches considerable importance to its partnership with Mongolia and will continue to work to strengthen the country’s cooperation with the EU. This is what President Rosen Plevneliev said at a meeting with his Mongolian counterpart Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj. In March 2015 the Bulgarian National Assembly ratified the Framework Agreement on Partnership and Cooperation between the EU and Mongolia, which, in the Head of State’s words, will bring more pragmatism in the bilateral trade relations as well.
Expanding and diversifying Bulgarian export to Mongolia, and increasing investment exchange is a priority for Bulgaria. Within President Rosen Plevneliev’s state visit to Mongolia in May 2015, the bilateral legal framework in a great number of spheres was undated, which creates opportunities for the implementation of mutually-beneficial projects. The Head of State highlighted the geological-prospecting research, extraction and processing of mineral resources and the implementation of joint projects in the water sector as particularly perspective sectors of bilateral cooperation.
The two Presidents also discussed the development of bilateral exchange in education and science. Over 500 students from Mongolia have studied in Bulgarian universities and more than 3,000 specialized in Bulgaria. A programme on cooperation in education, culture and research in 2017-2020 is due to be signed shortly. Our country will support the construction of a greenhouse in Mongolia and Mongolian students will study agriculture in Bulgaria.
On 15 July the Bulgarian Head of State will attend a ceremony to mark the official opening of the 11th meeting of the state and government leaders of the member-states of the Asian European Meeting (ASEM) and will make a statement before the participants in the forum.
