The talks between Vice-president Iliana Iotova and the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Dunja Mijatovic, held at 2 Dondukov street, focused on the loss of human rights people have stood up for decades on end. “I am observing a paradox – the more structures defending human rights are established, the more problems they face. We ourselves frequently give up our rights,” Iliana Iotova said.

The basic topic of the talks held between Bulgarian Vice-president Iliana Iotova and the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was the study of the Bulgarian language and the development of the Bulgarian community in Kazakhstan. Vice-president Iliana Iotova’s two-day visit to Kazakhstan, made at the invitation of the Bulgarian community, started with a meeting with President Tokayev.

“I am happy that the most pleasant meeting of this so important day is to take place and now it is with you, my compatriots.” This is what Vice-president Iliana Iotova said late last night in the Bulgarian Embassy in Tirana at a meeting with representatives of the Bulgarian community in the Republic of Albania, where she is on a working visit. Representatives of the local Bulgarian associations, teachers, medical doctors, culture activists, tens of our compatriots from all parts of Albania took part in the meeting.

The language, alphabet and faith have united and will continue to unite our people. A small book written by a monk did something great – it raised the self-awareness of a whole people; so as to preserve it and take it to the present day. This is what Iliana Yotova said in the Bulgarian exarchate in Istanbul. The Vice-president is visiting the city on the occasion of marking 24 May – the day of the Bulgarian education and culture and of the Slavic script. She met more than 200 representatives of the Bulgarian community in Turkey, including students from the Bulgarian Sunday school in Istanbul.
