Migration and protecting the EU’s external borders are a common issue for Bulgaria and Malta, the two countries will coordinate their positions on and will work together to overcome the challenges they face within the forthcoming Maltese and Bulgarian presidency of the Council of Europe. This is what emerged at the talks held in Valletta between President Rosen Plevneliev and Prime Minister of Malta Joseph Muscat.

For his significant contribution to the promotion and fostering of the international dialogue and for strengthening the friendly relations between the Republic of Malta and the Republic of Bulgaria, President Rosen Plevneliev was awarded Malta’s highest state order, the Companion of Honour of Malta's National Order of Merit.

Migration, protecting the EU's external borders and security issues should be among the top priorities on the bloc's agenda in 2017 and 2018 when Malta and Bulgaria will take over the Presidency EU Council. The two countries will coordinate realistic and feasible priorities that would lead to tangible results for the European citizens. This is what Head of State Rosen Plevneliev and President of Malta Marie Louise Coleiro Preca agreed on in Valletta, within the Bulgarian President’s state visit in the insular country.

Opening a Bulgarian consular mission in Taraclia will bring the Bulgarians in Moldova nearer to their homeland and to Europe, President Rosen Plevneliev said at the Grigorij Tsamblak State University of Taraclia, where he met undergraduates and lecturers of the only Bulgarian institute of higher education abroad.
