Rosen Plevneliev: My Goal is to Have Stability and Functioning Institutions Achieved in the State. Until This Day both the Parliament and the Government are Working

The most important goal at these elections is to have a legitimately elected by the people at fair and decent elections new head of state and not to speculate about what could happen from now on. This is what President Rosen Plevneliev said after he exercised his right to vote at the second round of the presidential elections.

The President said that he will congratulate his successor right away and will invite them at his office at 2 Dondukov street and brief them on the current tasks and the way the activity in the presidential institution is organized. “I set continuity and developing what has already been done as a major priority of the presidential institution. I would be very happy if this happens in the future,” Rosen Plevneliev said.

The Head of state once again called on the people to vote actively, independently and bona fide.

“I have both the power and the experience to form a new caretaker government. However, one thing should be clear – if in the following days Bulgaria faces a political crisis, I will observe the constitution in its provisions and spirit. The constitution clearly stipulates what the head of state does in case a crisis arises,” President Plevneliev recalled in response to a journalist’s question. “Finding a sustainable governance formula within the current National Assembly depends only on the political parties and the executive branch of government. It is too early to form a caretaker government,” the President commented.

“I am ready, by holding consultations and a dialogue with everyone, including the newly-elected president, to follow the path that the constitution stipulates. Forming a caretaker government is not an end in itself. My goal is to have stability and functioning institutions achieved in the state. Until this day both the parliament and the government are working,” President Rosen Plevneliev said.

The people’s willingness, expressed at the national referendum conducted together with the first round of the presidential elections, should be respected and produce concrete results. “Therefore we need a functioning National Assembly,” the Head of State further called for.
