The President: We are Opening up New Horizons for Cooperation with Brazil

2016-02-02 08:56:00
No matter what we do together, we will defend integration, connectivity and friendship, Rosen Plevneliev said at a meeting with the Bulgarian community and the diplomatic corps in the city of Brasilia

Bulgarian foreign policy is balanced and is based on three basic principles – integration, connectivity and friendship with the neighboring countries. This is what Head of State Rosen Plevneliev said at a meeting held in the Bulgarian embassy in the capital of Brazil with representatives of the Bulgarian community, the honorary consuls of Bulgaria in Belo Horizonte, Rio de Janeiro, Recife and Florianopolis and the diplomatic corps in Brazil.

“Although the history of the Balkans is a history of conflicts, currently the region has set an example to be followed and Bulgaria is a proud EU member-state. The EU is a project for peace that requires a high level of cooperation and integration between the different nations, which will preclude a future conflict,” President Plevneliev said. “Today Bulgaria is a country which offers solutions to the large number of crises not only in the EU, but also in the whole world,” the Head of State added.

“In times of hardship, we should demonstrate a strong character and abilities,  we should show who we are and it is precisely at such moments that our values should determine the decisions we make. Bulgaria knows what country it is – we have a centuries-old history and together with Brazil we can contribute to a making the world a better place,” President Rosen Plevneliev said.

For Bulgaria, Brazil is the largest market in Latin America and currently we are opening up new horizons for our bilateral cooperation, the Head of State said and highlighted our country’s advantages in a lot of spheres. “No matter what we do together, we will defend integration, connectivity and friendship,” the Bulgarian President was adamant.

On the second day of his official visit to Brazil, the Head of State will encourage the contacts between the businesses of the two countries at a joint Bulgarian-Brazilian business forum. The Brazilian National Confederation of Industry will host the meeting. A 20-member Bulgarian business delegation will take part in the forum.
