President Rosen Plevneliev discussed the situation in Ukraine with Mikola Baltajy, ambassador of Ukraine to Bulgaria

Violence should be promptly ended and a political solution to the situation in Ukraine should be found. This is what President Rosen Plevneliev insisted on in the talks he held with Ukrainian ambassador Mikola Baltajy at 2 Dondukov street. The Head of State yet again strongly condemned the usage of violence which led to the death of tens of innocent people.

Ambassador Mikola Baltajy informed the Head of State about the situation in the country and thanked him for being one of the most ardent advocates of Ukraine’s European development.

The lasting solution to the political crisis in Ukraine involves forming a government of national agreement, conducting early presidential elections and a constitutional reform, Rosen Plevneliev said. The President emphasized that it is high time the power holders and the opposition became aware of their historical responsibility for the future of the country and the Ukrainian people. The Ukrainian civil society firmly voiced its civilization choice and the power holders should hear it, the Head of State commented. Rosen Plevneliev recalled that he has more than once told the European state and government officials that the EU should take prompt and adequate measures in support of the democratic and economic development of Ukraine. The Head of State said that as President of an EU member state, he will put efforts into ensuring that a common EU position is adopted and will insist that the EU takes urgent measures in support of the economic recovery and stabilization of the country.

According to the President, the current crisis unambiguously shows that the only lasting long-term solution to the crisis in Ukraine lies in the country’s being a unified and independent European state. The proposal for signing an Association Agreement is still valid, the door to the EU is still open for Ukraine, the Head of State emphasized. Rosen Plevneliev said that the European idea unites all people – the idea of securing peace and human development. All minority groups will feel equal in a democratic and European Ukraine, the President further commented.
