“I am ready to hold consultations with the parliamentary groups as early as Thursday, 23 May, until the end of the day. Henceforth I will not delay handing the mandate for forming a government to a candidate for prime minister nominated by the biggest parliamentary group.” This is what President Rosen Plevneliev said in an address to the people and the National Assembly delivered from the parliamentary rostrum. The Head of State attended the swearing-in ceremony of the newly-elected Assembly Deputies and the first solemn meeting of the 42nd Ordinary National Assembly.

By virtue of a decree, President Rosen Plevneliev will schedule the first solemn meeting of the 42nd National Assembly for 21 May. This is what the Head of State said after holding successive talks with the leaderships of the political parties that enter the next parliament – GERB, Coalition for Bulgaria, DPS and Political Party Ataka. “Not later than tomorrow (18 May) I will sign a decree whereby I will convene the National Assembly and the date on which we reached general consensus is Tuesday, 21 May,” the President said and recalled his firm position that the country needs a working parliament.

By the end of May President Rosen Plevneliev will issue a decree whereby the 42nd National Assembly will be convened. This is what the head of state said on the occasion of the end of the early general election. Promptly after parliament is constituted, the President will start consultations with the parliamentary groups to form a new government in compliance with the procedure stipulated in the Constitution.
