The meeting the Head of State Rosen Plevneliev held with Herman Van Rompoy, president of the European Council, focused on the situation with the Syrian refugees in Bulgaria. Our country has taken a lot of measures to cope with the migration pressure and thanks to the European solidarity the conditions in the accommodation centers have improved considerably, Rosen Plevneliev said at the meeting late on 1 April.

“Closer cooperation and sharing resources between the NATO member-states are the mechanisms for building collective capabilities for defense,” Rosen Plevneliev said, who held talks today with Victoria Nuland, Assistant Secretary of State for European and Euroasian Affairs at 2 Dondukov street. President Rosen Plevneliev awarded the Stara Planina medal to Irina Bokova, director general of UNESCO. This highest state medal is an expression of Bulgaria’s appreciation of Irina Bokova’s contribution to world peace and security by strengthening the cooperation between the nations in the education, science and culture sectors, the Head of State said at the ceremony held at 2 Dondukov street.
