President Rosen Plevneliev will promote a national debate on the global agreements with regard to the large-scale movements of refugees and migrants, climate change and the 2030 Goals for sustainable development. "By the end of 2016, it should become clear how Bulgaria will bring its long-term goals and programs in line with the set global goals", the head of state said before the Bulgarian media representatives in New York, where the president is continuing his working visit for the 71st Session of the UN General Assembly.

Bulgaria should speed up its preparations to join the Eurozone, otherwise it risks lagging behind in the decision-making process in United Europe. This is what head of state Rosen Plevneliev warned against during his meeting with Jewish organizations. As a tradition, Plevneliev exchanged views with representatives of Jewish organizations about topical issues on the European and international agenda.

President Rosen Plevneliev and Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau discussed the state of the EU following Brexit, questions of bilateral trade and economic cooperation and the liberalization of visas for Bulgarian citizens. Plevneliev is in New York to attend the 71st Session of the UN General Assembly.

We cannot address the issue unless we resolve the root causes of migration. We need to find lasting settlement of the conflicts and tackle human rights violations, difficult socio-economic situations and lack of good governance in the countries of origin.
