It is a great honor and responsibility to me to take over the post of Head of State from President Plevneliev before all of you, before the representative units of the Bulgarian army, an army that has defended our statehood, freedom and dignity for 13 centuries.

A very difficult, yet successful term in office is over. I pursued the right course, I set the right priorities. I gave but did not take. I kept my promises. I have made mistakes as every human being but not as President, and I made no mistakes vis-a-vis the important issues. What matters in politics is not how you enter but how you leave – I am leaving holding my head up.

An undoubtedly very difficult, yet worthy and successful term in office is over. This was a term in office in a period of extreme instability in the country and across the world. On the international arena, we witnessed a record number of conflicts, migrants and terror acts, a plethora of parallel crises ongoing in the region, in Europe and in the world.

Today, when we witness division and opposition in the world, Bulgaria is among the countries that believe in the rule of law, not among these that rely on the power of weapons and the fight between interests. This is what President Rosen Plevneliev said at the traditional meeting with the heads of the diplomatic missions, accredited in Bulgaria.
