Within the forthcoming presidential campaign each of the candidates will have to clearly state where he or she stands and pledge to facilitate the further integration of the country within the European Union and NATO and defend the European values, said the Head of State, who announced the start of the new 2016-2017 academic year at the oldest higher military school in Bulgaria. „We heard many politicians ask the question: what are these Euro-Atlantic values. I am saying it load and clear – they are peace, democracy, rule of law. Is there anyone who can openly say that the Euro-Atlantic values are different from our national ideal“, asked President Rosen Plevneliev.

On 14-15th of September 2016 Bulgaria will host the 12th informal meeting of the EU non-executive Head of State of the Arraiolos Group. The meeting is going to take place in the cities of Plovdiv and Sofia.

President Rosen Plevneliev and Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras discussed strengthening the cooperation between Bulgaria and Greece in the energy sector, transport infrastructure, trade and investments relations, defense, and also migration and topical international issues. The Head of State received the Greek Prime Minister, who is visiting Bulgaria to take part in a joint meeting of the two countries’ governments. This is the first visit of the Greek Prime Minister in a country from the region.

Bulgaria and Slovenia are an insurmountable factor of peace and prosperity in Southeastern Europe with respect to the region’s future and direction of development. “We welcome any initiative for strengthening and enhancing the EU foundations, as a key factor for peace and understanding among the peoples. The European integration of the Western Balkan countries is of primary importance for ensuring stability and prosperity in the region,” Rosen Plevneliev said.
