I have never welcomed and will not welcome CETA. I have never voted and will not vote for CETA. On the contrary, as Bulgarian President and guardian of the Bulgarian Constitution, I will refer the matter to the Constitutional Court because CETA requires amendments to our constitution and the Constitutional Court will have to come up with an opinion on their compliance with the law. This is what President Rumen Radev told journalists in Brussels. “What was expressed last night was a declaration which was not voted due to Poland's disapproval of Donald Tusk's re-election as President of the European Council,” the Head of State emphasized.

“A trend exists whereby the EU could be transformed from a Union based on principles and values into a Union based on settling accounts and bargaining. I am here to voice Bulgaria’s clear support for the EU’s fundamental values - unity and solidarity.” This is what President Rumen Radev told journalists before the opening of the European Council meeting in Brussels today. The Head of State will present Bulgaria’s position at the EU summit and will take part in a debate dedicated to the White Book on the future of Europe.

The EU member-states should pool efforts to facilitate the access of SMEs to the common market, which will also make it possible to deepen the process of European integration. The development of the individual countries and regions in the EU and also of the infrastructure connecting them is unequal and this requires additional support for the implementation of projects on transport and energy connections in Central and Eastern Europe. This was the common position shared by the Presidents of Bulgaria and Poland Rumen Radev and Andrzej Duda, who held a bilateral meeting today in Munich.
