Rosen Plevneliev: I am guided in my actions by the rules and spirit of the Constitution

2012-11-21 11:20:00

“I am guided in my actions by the interests of the citizens, by the rules and spirit of the Constitution. Those who become members of the Constitutional Court should be the best and most suited to be a beacon of democracy and justice for Bulgaria’s citizens,” President Rosen Plevneliev said in regard to developments around the nomination of a Constitutional Court judge from the quota of the National Assembly. The President emphasised that his actions are guided by two basic principles - not to enter into political games or alliances and that his actions are guided by the Constitution. “So I emphatically declare that I will listen to what people say, but I will abide by the spirit of the Constitution,” President Plevneliev underlined.

Parliament has the task and responsibility to make a wise decision regarding the selection of a new candidate Constitutional Court judge, the President said.

“Their actions proved that the Bulgarian Constitution does not consist only of rules, paragraphs and commas, but must ensure that everyone works in the interest of citizens. It was clear that a judge nominated by the National Assembly was not accepted by society and that Bulgarians had doubts. I'm sure everyone learned their lesson,” the President said.
