The Head of State visits the Bulgarian Pavilion on Bulgaria Day at the EXPO Osaka 2025
Bulgaria can confidently offer Japan opportunities of mutual interest for cooperation in the high-tech sectors of the future. This was stated by President Rumen Radev during the celebration of Bulgaria Day at the Bulgarian pavilion at the EXPO Osaka 2025 world exhibition.
Bulgaria is participating in EXPO Osaka 2025 under the subtheme "Saving Lives", related to health, well-being, peace, human security and dignity. The motto of the pavilion is "Evolution with Nature" and conveys the message that progress must be in harmony with nature. For visitors, our country is presented through an interactive adventure created with the help of artificial intelligence. The architect of our national pavilion is Hiroto Kobayashi , and the interior design was the work of a Bulgarian team including architects Maria Gospodinova, Iskren Krastev and MP-STUDIO – pioneers in the field of light art in Europe.
The head of state congratulated the Japanese side for the professional organisation of the event and the attraction of delegates from all over the world dedicated to the challenges facing humanity.
Rumen Radev also highlighted Bulgaria's achievements in the field of artificial intelligence and information technologies, with our country being among the first in Europe to be selected to build artificial intelligence factories with European funding. According to the head of state, in this area too, our country can successfully cooperate with Japanese companies, and proof of this is the joint work that has begun between the only Bulgarian institute of its kind in our region for artificial intelligence, INSAIT, which attracts talents and minds from the world's most prestigious academic and business organisations, and the national research institute of Japan, RIKEN.
For Bulgarian entrepreneurs, space is no longer the last frontier - companies from Bulgaria are among the leaders in the production of space food, and one of the fastest growing space companies that produces and operates nanosatellites is based in Bulgaria, said Rumen Radev, giving the example of the Bulgarian company Endurosat, which in just three years has produced and launched into orbit three times more satellites than all the countries of the Balkans combined.
Japanese students studying Bulgarian give us confidence that active cooperation and friendship between Bulgaria and Japan will continue in the future, said the President. During the celebration of the Bulgaria Day, Japanese students from three universities where our language is studied presented their Bulgarian language skills at the pavilion of our country, and in Japan, there are a total of six such educational institutions. Japan also provides over 500 scholarships for the training of Bulgarian students and postgraduates, and in December 2024 a Bulgarian language oratory competition will be held in Osaka for the second time, and in May 2024 the first Bulgarian studies conference in Japan will be held at Osaka University.
Representatives of clubs of the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency from the country and abroad joined in celebrating Bulgaria Day by establishing a simultaneous online connection.
During the day, President Rumen Radev visited the European Union pavilion at EXPO Osaka 2025, where technologies, environmentally friendly food products and healthy foods produced in the EU are presented. The head of state also visited the pavilions of Japan, Singapore and the Netherlands.
