Rumen Radev: It Is Extremely Dangerous for Voices for Peace to Be Met with Shots

2024-05-18 13:43:00

It is extremely dangerous for the passions of the war between the Russian Federation and Ukraine to flare up in Europe as well, and for the voices for peace to be met with shots. The assassination attempt at a European prime minister by a radicalised fanatic because of his support for peace is indicative of the consequences of inculcated intolerance and hatred. This is what President Rumen Radev told the media in response to a question about the attempt at the life of the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico.

The president defined it as unacceptable in European societies to instil intolerance towards different voices and hatred and reminded that he had long warned about the growth of war. It is unacceptable to present the continuation of the war and the impossible victory over Russia as the only possible solution, Radev added. In his view, many politicians, parties and media have contributed to spreading hatred in Europe by presenting each different voice as "pro-Russian", which is not only extremely unfair, but leads to these negative consequences.

All bloodshed begins with militaristic appeals that have no place in Europe, and any attempt to bring the passions of war and violence here leads to no good. Such actions must be held accountable, President Radev opined.

The head of state once again called for a voice of reason and, finally, for effective diplomatic efforts for peace and ending the war in Ukraine, and not for the continuous pouring of arms. According to him, regardless of whether arms are supplied or not, the outcome of the military actions will be similar, but the difference will be thousands of human casualties and the devastation of Ukraine, for whose recovery Europe will have to help and pay. If there is no end to this war, Ukraine will be demographically destroyed and with a completely shattered infrastructure, industry, productions. This will have extremely serious consequences not only for Ukraine, but also for the whole of Europe, the president said adding that every day of the military conflict is disastrous.

We will be choosing in the upcoming and the subsequent election between war and peace, and every one of our citizens must be aware of that, the president said when asked about the impact of Robert Fico's assassination attempt on the vote.
