President Rumen Radev held a meeting with the new Head of the European Commission Representation in Bulgaria, Yordanka Chobanova, and welcomed her taking office in March.

Rumen Radev and Yordanka Chobanova discussed the expectations for Bulgaria's accession to the Schengen land borders after the abolition of controls at the internal air and sea borders on 31 March this year.

The possibilities for Bulgaria to receive the second instalment of the funds under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP) and the commitments made by Bulgaria to this end were also a topic of discussion. Rumen Radev noted that the only funds received by our country under the RRP were the first instalment in December 2022 during the caretaker government.

During the talks, issues pertaining to the currently discussed elements of change in the EU enlargement policy and decision-making procedures in the EU Council were also discussed. Rumen Radev and Yordanka Chobanova noted the importance of the upcoming European Parliament elections and of an active campaign focusing on issues important for the future of European citizens and the Community.
