Radev: Bulgaria Resists Unprecedented Migration Pressure, Regardless of Workload of Border Guards

2022-12-02 18:51:00

The Bulgarian state has mobilised all available resources to resist the unprecedented migration pressure at the border, is what President Rumen Radev said in a telephone conversation with Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer, which took place today.

The head of State noted that the influx of migrants to Bulgaria has increased many-fold compared to last year. Despite the workload and exhaustion of the officers guarding the border, they are coping with the constant pressure. To check the flow, the state has deployed patrols and technical equipment, additional law enforcement officers have been posted, as well as Bulgarian military personnel.

This country is grateful for the support of the European Union. However, we expect recognition of our achievements and solidarity from our European partners through Bulgaria's accession to Schengen without further delay, Radev insisted. He pointed out that blocking this country's accession to the Schengen area would have a demotivating effect on law enforcement officers who continue to perform their duties professionally.
