At an official ceremony in the Coat of Arms Hall at 2 Dondukov Blvd today, President Rumen Radev presented the Order of the Madara Horseman, First Class, to His Eminence Monsignor Anselmo Guido Pecorari, the outgoing Apostolic Nuncio to Bulgaria, for his services to the advancement of relations between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Holy See.

The President highlighted Monsignor Pecorari's contribution to the development of relations between this country and the Holy See during the period of his service here, marked by intense activity and significant results. The Head of State pointed to some key events, such as the apostolic visit of Pope Francis to Bulgaria, the visit of the Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin, as well as the annual visits of Bulgarian state delegations to Rome and the Vatican on the occasion of the celebration of the feast of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius.

Rumen Radev made mention of the Apostolic Nunciature's energetic charity activity under the leadership of Monsignor Pecorari. 'We also appreciate your contribution to deepening the contacts with Bulgarian Orthodox Church officials from the Holy Synod. This includes the provision of valuable artefacts from the Vatican, closely related to the history and religion of our people and country,' Rumen Radev added.

'I believe that whenever I return to Bulgaria, I will be welcomed by every Bulgarian in the country as a friend,' Monsignor Pecorari said in turn and defined the highest state award he had received as a recognition of his activity and homage to the Holy Father. Monsignor Pecorari presented President Radev with the Silver Annual Papal Medal for the year.
