The President: While the State Agency for National Security Serves Certain Parties and Persons, We Cannot Overcome Corruption at the High Levels of Government

2021-05-27 16:17:00

While the State Agency for National Security serves certain parties and persons, we cannot overcome corruption at the high levels of government, declared President Rumen Radev during a media briefing. He stated that turning a blind eye to significant infringements and corruption scandals with no reaction is the reason for a lack of results in fighting corruption and for foreign spies being active in Bulgaria for years on end. Questioned about his opinion of the new leadership of the State Agency for National Security, the Head of State pointed out that it should prove its capacities in its work.

Asked about the information that Portugal has offered for EU historians to participate in the Bulgarian-Macedonian Committee on Historic Issues, the President replied that progress depends on a constructive bilateral dialogue. “We do not need any intermediaries. Nobody knows our history better than ourselves,” the Head of State noted, and emphasised the detailed conversation held on the previous day with the President of the Republic of North Macedonia Stevo Pendarovski. “It is up to us to lead an honest, constructive dialogue, based on historic documents, on sources. The steps we should make do not cross through other European capitals, and pressure on Bulgaria should not be coming from there. Not under any circumstances,” President Rumen Radev stated. He declared that a sustainable and irreversible solution to the issues with North Macedonia must be sought.
