Head of State Rumen Radev Held a Meeting with the Ambassador of Ukraine to Bulgaria Vitaliy Moskalenko

At a meeting with the Ambassador of Ukraine to Bulgaria Vitaliy Moskalenko,  Head of State Rumen Radev called for a more active bilateral political dialogue between Bulgaria and Ukraine and for resuming the meetings of the Intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation. At the meeting held at 2 Dondukov street, the President emphasized that the peoples of Bulgaria and Ukraine share deep historical, cultural and spiritual ties and the institutions in the two countries should pool efforts to introduce a new dynamics in further developing and deepening them.

Both Bulgaria and Ukraine share a common interest in the implementation of a lot of projects in economy and infrastructure, it emerged at the conversation. EU instruments like the Danube strategy provide the opportunity for expanding the partnership, by more active participation of Ukraine. In the past years the interest of Ukrainian nationals in finding jobs and tourism in Bulgaria is growing and our country has been visited by 470,000 Ukrainians in 2019.

Bulgaria expects that the administrative and functional integrity of the historical Bolgrad region will be preserved upon conducting the administrative and territorial reform in Ukraine, President Rumen Radev further emphasized at the meeting. The Head of State highlighted our country’s great interest in the comprehensive development of our ties with our compatriots in Ukraine so as to preserve their language, national identity and culture. Ambassador Moskalenko assured, for his part, that the integrity of the Bolgrad region will not be affected by the administrative reform in the country and the historical region will be preserved.

Ambassador Moskalenko voiced gratitude for Bulgaria’s consistent and principled support for Ukraine’s European and Euro-Atlantic prospects.
