Presidents Rumen Radev and Moon Jae-in Marked 30 Years since the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Bulgaria and the Republic of Korea

In the past thirty years Bulgaria and South Korea managed to cultivate relations of a comprehensive partnership, directed towards the future and based on shared values and mutual trust. This is what Head of State Rumen Radev says in a letter to his Korean counterpart Moon Jae-in. The two presidents exchanged congratulations on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and South Korea.

In President Radev’s words, proof of the excellent contacts between Bulgaria and South Korea are the active top-level dialogue, the broad and stable legal framework of the relations, the strong trade relations and the cooperation in different areas, among which are those of information technologies, energy, tourism, education and science.

“My sincere wish is that the joint efforts be continued so as to realize the potential of the bilateral relations and raise them to the level of strategic partnership,” the Bulgarian Head of State emphasized. Rumen Radev highlights as important priorities for Bulgaria achieving a balanced trade and increasing the Bulgarian export, attracting Korean investments, joint creation of state-of-the-art and high-tech productions and research and development centers in Bulgaria, and also development in the area of tourism.

“We highly appreciate the successful interaction between Bulgaria and the Republic of Korea on the international arena on a lot of topics of global and regional significance,” President Radev further says and notes the partnership in sustainable development, fighting climate change, non-distribution of nuclear weapons and fighting the spread of COVID-19. Bulgaria will continue working so that the strategic partnership between the EU and the Republic of Korea be deepened, Rumen Radev’s letter further says.

“Since the diplomatic relations were established in 1990, the two countries are constantly expanding their cooperation in different areas, including politics, economy, society, culture,” President Moon Jae-in says in his letter to Head of State Rumen Radev. He adds that strong trust lies at the basis of the developing relations between our countries and voices hope that the partnership and ties between the peoples of Bulgaria and the Republic of Korea will be strengthened.
