Iraq Has an Interest in Resuming its Active Economic Relations with Bulgaria

2019-09-24 09:53:00

It is Bulgaria’s and Iraq’s ambition to start restoring the presence of Bulgarian companies on the Iraqi market in various industries where the two countries used to be economic partners in the recent past. This is what President Rumen Radev said after a meeting with Iraqi President Barham Salih in New York. The two held talks within the 74th session of the UN General Assembly.

The two Presidents shared the opinion that the good economic relations between Bulgaria and Iraq are a good basis for restoring the partnership in the new conditions of democratic development. Bulgaria used to have a strong presence in the sphere of construction, hydro equipment, oil and gas prospecting and production, medicine and education. In these fields Iraq is open for partnerships and highly appreciates the Bulgarian specialists and companies. “I hope that if security is strengthened in the country, Bulgaria will have its presence in Iraq,” Rumen Radev said.

At the meeting Barham Salih voiced Iraq’s interest in Bulgaria’s experience in the transition to democracy. We will rely on more Iraqi students coming to study at our universities, President Rumen Radev said.

At the meeting the Head of State said that Bulgaria will continue to support Iraq’s efforts for the country’s stabilization and restoration and is ready to provide assistance in the process of Iraq’s democratic reforms. Iraq needs support because the country’s repeated destabilization will affect our region not only in terms of security, but also in terms of the sharp increase of migrant and refugee flows, Rumen Radev told journalists.
