Rumen Radev: it is Obligatory to Preserve the Memory about the Horrors of World War II against the Backdrop of Today’s Fierce Arguments over World Leadership

2019-09-01 16:49:00

We should remember not only the horrors of the war, but also the causes that stoked this war in order to avoid the danger of repeating these mistakes today when there are again fierce arguments over world leadership. This is what President Rumen Radev told Bulgarian journalists after attending the ceremony in Warsaw held on the occasion of marking the 80th anniversary of the beginning of World War II. The commemorative ceremony in the capital of Poland gathered state and government leaders from forty countries.

The marking of the 80th anniversary of the bloodiest and most devastating war in human history is topical today as well, President Radev emphasized. In the Head of State’s words, the commemorative ceremony has even greater significance today against the backdrop of the numerous conflicts in the world, the belligerent rhetoric and the growing instability in regions that are close to our region and the disintegration of the system of international agreements in the sphere of armament, which pushes us toward a new arms race.

Earlier President Rumen Radev discussed in Warsaw topics on the EU agenda with the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Belgium and the newly elected President of the European Council Charles Michel. The talks also focused on changing the mechanism of taking common decisions within the EU, which will allow the EU to react more quickly in international relations.
