2019-06-25 14:38:00

The European Organization for Nuclear Research – CERN has established itself as a standard of quality. I am proud that the Bulgarian specialists have contributed to the development of world science here. This is what the President said at a meeting with our compatriots who work for the organization in Geneva.

The Head of State called on the Bulgarian scholars in CERN to support the development of high added-value science in Bulgaria. The future belongs to the countries which manage to exploit the potential of their scholars to the fullest, Rumen Radev emphasized.

More than 13 000 scholars from 97 countries from the whole world conduct scientific research at CERN and a total of over 100 Bulgarian specialists collaborate with the organization. The President said that the leadership of CERN highly appreciates the work of our specialists there.

In the President’s words, Bulgaria has the potential to be the leading country in establishing an International institute for sustainable technologies in Southeast Europe with apparatuses provided by CERN and in this respect the support of the young Bulgarian scholars from CERN who have proved their expertise is of crucial importance.

Rumen Radev was welcomed in CERN by Fabiola Gianotti, Director General of CERN. The Head of State visited the tunnel, where the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is located – an accelerator in which particles collide at a speed close to that of light. The tunnel with the apparatuses closes in a ring with a perimeter of about 27 km.

The President got acquainted with the work of the CMS detector, the construction of which was done with the help of a lot of Bulgarians. It monitors and records the results of the particle collision.
