Bulgarians in Hungary not only preserve their identity but also actively participate in the social and political life of the country and are the live connection between the peoples of Bulgaria and Hungary. This is what President Rumen Radev said at a meeting with representatives of the Bulgarian community in Budapest. The Head of State is on an official visit to Hungary at the invitation of Hungarian President Janos Ader.
The Head of State voiced gratitude for Hungary’s active policy and support for preserving the language, national identity and historical memory of the Bulgarian community in the country. “I would also like to extend my gratitude to the Bulgarian self-government and the Association of the Bulgarians in Hungary, who preserve the native spirit and culture and raise Bulgaria’s prestige,” Rumen Radev further said in his address to the representatives of the Bulgarian community in Budapest, the meeting with which took place during the first day of his visit in the Hungarian city.
The President emphasized the contribution of the Bulgarians from each generation in Hungary, who have been building a small Bulgaria in this friendly country for more than 100 years already. The Head of State also welcomed our compatriots’ initiative for declaring 19 October as the Day of the Bulgarian-Hungarian friendship, which was overwhelmingly supported by the Bulgarian and Hungarian authorities and has become a symbol of the friendly relations between the two peoples.
Earlier the Head of State and his wife Desislava Radeva visited the ethnographic town of Szentendre.
