President Radev: Bulgaria and Slovenia Share the Responsibility for the Stability in Our Region

2018-10-25 14:27:00

“Bulgaria and Slovenia are located at the two sides of the Western Balkans and we should set a personal example and contribute to the stability and security in the region.” This is what President Rumen Radev said at a meeting with Miro Cerar, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, held at 2 Dondukov street.

President Radev and the Slovenian guest were unanimous that the relations between the two countries are excellent due to the beneficial political dialogue on all levels, which is an excellent basis for the development of the relations in all other spheres – investments, economy, culture and tourism.

“While the direct Sofia-Ljubljana airline that opened earlier this year will boost tourism, it is also an important condition for the development of our economic relations and the direct contacts between citizens,” Rumen Radev said.  Miro Cerar, for his part, said that Bulgaria is among the few countries in Europe that is so rich in history, culture and archaeological finds.

The Bulgarian Head of State said that although the trade between the countries is good, there are still unused opportunities for its further increase. “The potential for strengthening the economic and investments cooperation between Bulgaria and Slovenia should be more actively developed,” was the position voiced by Miro Cerar as well.

At the meeting opinions were also exchanged on the debate about Europe’s future, the Western Balkan countries’ European prospects, and the EU policy on migration.

The Republic of North Macedonia should not forget that it is a candidate country for EU membership and cannot set conditions for member states. Nor can it revise international treaties, because this 'brands' the country as a state that does not respect international law. This is what Head of State Rumen Radev told the media in Burgas when asked to comment on the once again exacerbated rhetoric in Skopje regarding Bulgaria.
