Head of State Rumen Radev Extended His Gratitude to Professor Guiseppe Consolo for his Courage to Defend the Honor of the Bulgarian people

2018-05-11 11:38:00

Bulgaria highly appreciates your bravery and courage when in the days of the Cold War when the refutation of the thesis about the so-called “Bulgarian trace” in the assassination attempt against Pope John Paul II was ideologically banned. This is what Head of State Rumen Radev said, who met Prof. Guiseppe Consolo, defense lawyer of Sergei Antonov during the trial against the Bulgarians charged with taking part as accomplices in preparing the assassination attempt against Pope John Paul II.

Guiseppe Consolo is professor in constitutional law in the Guido Carli University in Rome and is visiting Bulgaria for the premiere of his book “The assassination attempt against the pope. The true story.”

“I thank you on behalf of the whole Bulgarian people. Time passes, yet this case will always be remembered in Bulgaria. We are not speaking only about opposing the Cold War time. However then the honor of a small, yet worthy people was threatened,” the Head of State said.

“I accept this meeting with the Bulgarian President as a sign of the Bulgarian people’s resolve to obliterate what some people, albeit few, call the “Bulgarian trace” in the assassination attempt against the Pope,” Guiseppe Consolo said. Guiseppe Consolo’s book will be presented in Sofia, and later in Plovdiv and Stara Zagora.
