President Rumen Radev Held a Meeting with the World-famous Israeli Novelist, Historian and Politician Prof. Michael Bar-Zohar

2018-01-30 18:35:00

President Rumen Radev received today at 2 Dondukov street the World-famous Israeli novelist, historian and politician Prof. Michael Bar-Zohar, who was born in Bulgaria. At the meeting the Head of State expressed gratitude for Prof. Michael Bar-Zohar’s contribution to the heroic narrative about the rescue of the Jewish community in Bulgaria during World War II.

“The rescue of the Bulgarian Jews was performed not only by the Bulgarian Orthodox Church and the deputies in parliament, but also mostly by the Bulgarian people, whose attitude and active support for their Jewish friends was of utmost importance,” Rumen Radev emphasized.

“The Bulgarian Jews have assumed their commitment to Bulgaria to popularize how a small country refused to obey the order of the Nazi regime. This was a case in point exposing the Bulgarian mindset,” Prof. Michael Bar-Zohar said. He added that Bulgaria is a unique example of tolerance and integration of the Jewish community.
