President Rumen Radev and the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic held talks at 2 Dondukov street today within Andrej Babis’ official visit to Bulgaria. Among the highlights of the meeting were increasing the trade between the two countries, the future cooperation in the spheres of research and education and the positions the two countries share as EU member states.

Head of State Rumen Radev voiced gratitude for the Czech Republic’s consistent support for Bulgaria’s Schengen accession and also for the shared experience in the preparatory stage of the first Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU.

Rumen Radev and Andrej Babis agreed that the European asylum granting system should be revised so that the illegal access of migrants to the European countries be kept to a minimum. The Bulgarian President and the Czech Prime Minister voiced the two countries’ readiness to actively take part in the initiatives related to the common European defense and decided to pool efforts to preserve the EU Cohesion Policy in support of the development of all member states.

The Czech Prime Minister, for his part, supported future initiatives for a more dynamic cooperation and dialogue between the Visegrad four countries and Bulgaria. Andrej Babis voiced contentment with the fact that Bulgaria has taken over the Presidency of the Council of the EU at a moment of key importance for the community and said that the bilateral relations in the sphere of tourism and cultural exchange set an example of deep and traditional cooperation.
