Rumen Radev: The UN should speed up the decision making process in the event of crises

2017-09-19 09:23:00

The UN member states should present their proposals and reach a consensus on the undertaking of reforms with a view to increasing the efficiency in UN's performance and speed up  the decision making process in the event of crises.  This is what President Rumen Radev said to the representatives of the Bulgarian media in New York on the occasion of the expected results from the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly. "Crises tend to arise and develop very fast, while reaching a consensus sometimes takes too much time," the head of state pointed out.

Asked to comment on the statement made by Prime Minister Boyko Borisov with regard to the acquisition of a new fighter aircraft, the president noted that the government has the resources for the Bulgarian army's modernization and also bears the responsibility to this effect. "National security cannot be built up by changing your position on a daily basis.  This is a strategic sphere with regard to the country's security and future development," the head of state was adamant. The president recommended that the government's advisors and the parliamentary group should read more.  "You cannot read a randomly selected  document, given that there are at least a hundred documents on the issue, and come up with weird statements," Rumen Radev further said. The president further specified that [former] Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski had never sought his expert opinion on the Swedish Gripen fighter aircraft.
