Latvian President Raimonds Vejonis Told Head of State Rumen Radev that He will Support Bulgaria’s Accession to the Schengen Area

Bulgaria and Latvia enjoy a high potential for developing the trade and economic relations between the two countries and it should be encouraged, President Rumen Radev said, who held a meeting with his Latvian counterpart Raimonds Vejonis in Warsaw within the framework of his participation in the Three Seas Initiative.

Rumen Radev and Raimonds Vejonis highlighted the good bilateral relations between the two countries and their constructive cooperation within the EU and NATO. The talks focused on guaranteeing security and fighting terrorism. The Bulgarian Head of State reiterated his call for adopting a common European action plan in case the migration pressure on the external EU borders suddenly increases.

President Vejonis voiced his firm support for Bulgaria’s accession to the Schengen Area. Raimonds Vejonis assured Rumen Radev that his country is ready to share its expertise in introducing the common European currency. “Bulgaria can rely on Latvia, which is experienced in preparing the accession to the Euro zone,” the Latvian President said.

Rumen Radev, for his part, invited servicemen from Latvia to take part in the NATO military exercises which are conducted in Bulgaria.
