2016-12-20 13:05:00

President Rosen Plevneliev was awarded the highest state order of Montenegro, the Order of Montenegro with Ribbon. The Bulgarian Head of State is on a one-day visit to the country at the invitation of Montenegro’s President Filip Vujanovic.

The order was conferred on Rosen Plevneliev as a sign of recognition of his consistent efforts and Bulgaria's strong support for Montenegro's European and Euro-Atlantic integration.

“Bulgaria sets as a high priority its bilateral relations with Montenegro. We share common European values and we believe that our region should be even better connected, and we are working towards achieving this goal," President Plevneliev said and voiced hope that Montenegro would soon be welcomed as a full-fledged member of the European family.

"We have managed to turn the Balkans from a conflict- and war-ridden region into a peaceful and united region dedicated to cooperation. There is no better choice we can make than to be partners and help each another" President Rosen Plevneliev further said and recalled that Bulgaria was the first country to recognize Montenegro's independence in 1878.

Within the framework of his visit, the President, together with his Montenegrin counterpart will take part in a solemn ceremony to mark the 10th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
