Head of State Rosen Plevneliev met in Kishinev with Moldova's President-elect Igor Dodon at the latter's request. Rosen Plevneliev and Igor Dodon exchanged views on the situation in Moldova after the November 13 presidential elections and on issues on the regional, European and international agenda.

President Rosen Plevneliev congratulated Dodon on his election for Moldova’s president and voiced hope that the Moldovan people have chosen to support the efforts for strengthening the traditionally friendly relations between Bulgaria and Moldova on all levels. The Head of State highlighted the need to continue key reforms in the country to restore the trust of the Moldovan people in the institutions.

The Bulgarian President reiterated his contentment with the consent of the Moldovan authorities to expand the Bulgarian diplomatic presence in the Taraclia region, where the historically second largest community of ethnic Bulgarians abroad is concentrated. Rosen Plevneliev hopes that the policy of the Moldovan institutions  allowing the preservation of the national, language and cultural identity of the Bulgarian national minority in Moldova will continue. We hope that the Taraclia region will preserve its status within the regional administrative reform, the Head of State emphasized during the talks.

On the second day of his official visit to Moldova, President Rosen Plevneliev will meet representatives of the Bulgarian national minority in Taraclia and undergraduates of the Taraclia State University, which is the only Bulgarian institute of higher education abroad.
