Rosen Plevneliev: the Act of Independence exposes the bravery of the great Bulgarians who defended the cause of the Bulgarian Statehood
2016-09-23 11:01:00Bulgaria's Independence Day is a symbol of the Bulgarian people's strength, the nation's unity and the bravery of the great Bulgarians who dared stand up against the Great Powers to defend the cause of Bulgarian statehood. This is what Head of State Rosen Plevneliev said on the occasion of the Bulgaria's Independence Day.
The president hosted a reception held at the Republic of Bulgaria's Permanent Representation at the UN in New York on the occasion of Bulgaria's national holiday and in honor of Irina Bokova, UNESCO director-general and Bulgaria's candidate for the post of UN secretary-general.
In the presence of representatives of the diplomatic corps from all over the world and of Bulgarian diplomats, the president called on all Bulgarians wherever across the world they might be to take pride in the independence of one of the oldest states in Europe. "Bulgaria is a country located at crossroads, and a country with wonderful people and beautiful nature, where many civilizations have left their traces. And we are proud of this", President Rosen Plevneliev told the guests of the event, and congratulated the Bulgarian people with their national holiday.
With her performance as UNESCO director-general, Irina Bokova showed our readiness to lend a helpful hand. She further showed that the Bulgarians may act as leaders and have the self-confidence, knowledge and courage to apply for top positions and head the most prestigious international organizations, the head of state said in his address. In President Plevneliev's words, as a result of the disrupted balance in the world and the record-high number of crises, the race for the UN leadership has become an unpredictable and difficult undertaking. "Who else but a figure with expertise can possibly take over such a leadership in the interest of the entire world", President Rosen Plevneliev further said.
