Head of State Rosen Plevneliev: Not a Single Solution Can be Sustainable if it is anti-European

2016-09-13 19:35:00

“Not a single solution can be sustainable if it is anti-European. Migration, terrorism, unemployment and the debt economic crisis know no borders and cannot be solved by any other means. The EU is a union of values and if we discard these values, only geo-politics and interests will remain. This is what President Rosen Plevneliev said at a joint news conference together with his Italian counterpart Sergio Mattarella.

Brexit is a great surprise for all of us. Today nationalists and populists go around the European capitals and never so far in human history have they offered people sustainable solutions,” the Head of State commented and forecast that lengthy negotiations will be held until a fair solution is found.

President Plevneliev pointed out that the migratory crisis was at the center of the talks held with President Sergio Mattarella.

“There are lots of good ideas the European Commission must address. I am sure that all EU member states will agree on strengthening the security measures along the external EU borders. Neither should the Balkan route be opened again, nor should new routes be created. We are aware that not only Turkey, but also other countries are guardians of the European gates,” Rosen Plevneliev said and reiterated the necessity to find a sustainable pan-European solution to the migratory crisis.

“Bulgaria and Italy are countries through which the migrants enter and they have a bitter experience with the death of every person who dies. This is an epochal phenomenon. Its dimensions are such that if Europe fails to take the necessary actions, the continent will grow further and if we fail to find a serious and responsible project, the problem will get out of control,” the President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella said, for his part.
