2016-06-09 13:34:00

Sustainable democratic and peaceful development is the cause Southeastern Europe promotes and we should use all mechanisms to encourage the cooperation and understanding between the countries in the region. This is what President Rosen Plevneliev and Speaker of Slovenia’s National Assembly Milan Brgles , who is leading the Slovenian parliamentary delegation visiting Bulgaria, highlighted at the talks they held at 2 Dondukov street.

The President and the Speaker of Slovenia’s Parliament exchanged opinions on the political processes and the state of democracy in the countries from the region and on the interaction between Bulgaria and Slovenia within the EU.

Rosen Plevneliev and Milan Brgles highlighted that the bilateral relations are excellent and this will be confirmed during the Bulgarian President’s forthcoming visit to Slovenia at the end of July 2016. Bulgaria and Slovenia are close partners in the region as well, and the excellent bilateral relations are a good basis for intensifying the parliamentary dialogue and are a condition for continuing the good joint cooperation on regional issues and initiatives.

President Plevneliev and Milan Brgles highly appreciated the Bulgarian chairmanship-in-office of SEECP, which is the authentic voice in the region and the two countries will work together to develop all areas of the format for regional political dialogue. Bulgaria also relies on Slovenia’s support for Sofia’s candidacy for being the host-city of the Permanent Secretariat of the Parliamentary Assembly of SEECP.

Bulgaria and Slovenia will strengthen their cooperation also in the sphere of the European and Euro-Atlantic integration of the countries in the region.

The Western Balkan countries should be fully integrated in the European structures and European integration is a powerful engine of the democratic development of the region, Rosen Plevneliev and Milan Brgles highlighted.

The two countries will also work so as to strengthen their economic cooperation and that in the investments sphere. 20 percent more Slovenian tourists visited Bulgaria in 2015 alone compared to the preceding year, it emerged at the meeting.
