Rosen Plevneliev: Bulgaria is an Ardent Supporter of the European Integration of the Western Balkan Countries

2015-02-01 15:51:00

Bulgaria will continue to firmly support the Western Balkan countries on their road to European integration. However, reforms should be conducted and they should enjoy international support, President Rosen Plevneliev said, who held talks with Mladen Ivanic, Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, at 2 Dondukov street. Ivanic arrived in Sofia to attend the commemoration service in memory of the deceased president Dr. Zhelyu Zhelev, who was dedicated to ensuring good-neighborly relations among the countries in the region.

Bosnia and Herzegovina can rely on Bulgaria’s support in the European Union, as well as on our country’s experience in the process of European integration,” the President said. Plevneliev highlighted Bulgaria as the main engine in the region promoting closer EU integration.

Mladen Ivanic briefed President Rosen Plevneliev on the reforms launched by  Bosnia and Herzegovina on the country’s road to European integration. The priority measures outlined in the plan coordinated with the international partners involve reviving the economy, which will consequently improve the dialogue on resolving key political issues. The Bulgarian Head of State, for his part, highlighted promoting the fundamental European values and respect for the rule of law as conditions for success.

Rosen Plevneliev and Mladen Ivanic exchanged opinions on the situation in East Ukraine, as well as on the risk of a new populist wave across the countries in the region and Europe.
