The possibilities for promoting bilateral economic co-operation between Bulgaria and Turkmenistan presidents were discussed by Presidents Rosen Plevneliev and Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow

President Rosen Plevneliev and his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow agreed on a mixed intergovernmental commission between Bulgaria and Turkmenistan to review the state of trade and economic relations and to propose new joint projects. They held talks during the UN Conference on Sustainable Development "Rio +20", held in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro.

One possibility to improve economic relations between both countries is a return to the Turkmen market of the well-known Bulgarian goods, which could be achieved through the establishment of joint ventures in agriculture and food production. These companies will be able to trade in the markets in Europe and Asia, President Plevneliev said. In turn, the Turkmen head of state expressed interest in the possibility of participation of Bulgarian companies in the reconstruction of ports in the Caspian Sea and in the construction of other infrastructure.

Infrastructure and energy diversification are the main priorities of Bulgaria, and Turkmenistan produces sufficient quantities of natural gas and other petroleum products. However, the most efficient way to transport them to Europe must be found, it was emphasised during the meeting Presidents Rosen Plevneliev and Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow.
