The President: the Caretaker Cabinet will Adhere to Strong Principles and Priorities

2014-07-21 14:59:00

The caretaker cabinet will adhere to strong principles and priorities since it has to solve serious problems and curb crises. This is what President Rosen Plevneliev said in reply to journalists’ questions.

“We need to change the approach to long-term planning in some sectors, which cannot be postponed. The caretaker government will prepare the reforms in them,” President Plevneliev said.  He pointed out that the tasks the cabinet had to address were to unblock the frozen funds from the EC and fast-track the EU funds absorption. “The caretaker government could have the opportunity to negotiate with Brussels and even finalize the 2014-2020 Partnership Agreement with the EC,” the President added.

If the political parties observe the commitments they assumed at the consultations held in the presidential institution, then the Head of State will address the nation and present the priorities of the caretaker government on 5 August. The President vowed to nominate “pro-EU minded democrats, with strong positions in the sectors they represent and ready to achieve results beneficial to the nation.”

The Head of State was adamant that the caretaker government will be appointed on time and will objectively address the tasks that have to be fulfilled.

In reply to a question whether new sanctions should be imposed on Russia, the President said that Europe needs a strong voice and clear position today and should stop the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine by showing determination and unity.
