The President: The Citizens Should Feel that the State is on their Side

2014-06-23 12:21:00

After the great pain we are experiencing for those who died in the disasters, the necessary conclusions must be drawn and the people should feel that the state is on their side. This is what the Head of State told journalists in Varna, where he attended a memorial service in the Dormition of the Mother of God cathedral in memory of those who died in the disastrous floods in Bulgaria.

“Today is not only a day of mourning for the victims that the floods in Varna and Dobrich claimed, but also a day of national compassion for the families of the dead and all people who suffered,” the President said.  He reiterated that the tragedy should not be exploited for political ends and that efforts should be pooled to solve the problems. “Currently it is time that anyone, no matter what their political affiliations are, should show their attitude to their people in trouble,” the Head of State emphasized and confirmed his commitment to closely follow the way the damage is remedied and to visit once again the regions affected by the floods.

“ The measures are clear – they should be purposeful, efficient and concrete,” the President further said. The Head of State once again called on the commissions for estimating the damage to perform their tasks as early as possible. The Interdepartmental Commission for Recovery and Assistance should work extra hours and send its representative on site  in the regions affected by the floods, President Rosen Plevneliev further insisted in Varna.

The Head of State voiced gratitude to the contributors and volunteers who provided help for the affected.
