Margarita Popova: The problem of corruption is one of the reasons for the current crisis in Europe

2012-06-05 15:00:00

Corruption is not only a criminal problem but has social dimensions too. This means that a broad basis for education in preventing and combating corruption, along with international co-operation, are important needs. This was highlighted a meeting between Vice President Margarita Popova, the president of the International Anti-Corruption Academy Martin Kreutner and representatives of the Bulgarian National Institute of Justice. Bulgaria has many qualified experts who can successfully engage and add value to the activities of international organizations, the Vice President said.

Vice President Popova said that two years from its inception, the Academy had managed to develop its activities in an appropriate direction. “The problems of corruption and the violation of laws occur not only in Bulgaria, to which a finger is pointed, but also in other EU countries, and this is one reason for the current crisis, and so I will support any initiative, as well as expert and visible participation by Bulgaria in the organization,” she said.

Currently, the International Anti-Corruption Academy has members from 75 countries and works closely with several international organizations in preventing and combating corruption. At the end of November, the Academy will hold an international forum in Vienna, with Bulgarians among those who will deliver lectures.
