Rosen Plevneliev: The Military Conflicts in Europe in the 20th Century Proved that Peace Has No Alternative

2014-04-07 18:44:00

“The military conflicts in Europe in the 20th century proved that peace has no alternative. Reconciliation and tolerance lie at the basis of the idea for a united Europe and this successful example should be encouraged.” These words were said by President Rosen Plevneliev, who held talks today with his Royal Highness Prince Edward, Duke of Kent at 2 Dondukov street. Prince Edward is on a visit to Bulgaria at the invitation of the Head of State on the occasion of commemorating the 100 anniversary since the beginning of World War I. “From a region of conflicts, the Balkans today unanimously share their willingness to be part of the European Union and Bulgaria will continue to support the efforts of the Western Balkan countries to this effect,” Rosen Plevneliev emphasized.

Within his visit Prince Edward will host a reception for a British business delegation and their Bulgarian partners, at which projects of mutual interest will be discussed. The United Kingdom is the fourth largest investor in Bulgaria. The bilateral trade exceeded 760 million euros in 2012 and in President Plevneliev’s view the high technologies sector, construction and the outsourcing of business services have a high potential for new British investments in our country.

At the meeting President Plevneliev reiterated his invitation to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to visit Bulgaria at any convenient time for her.

Tomorrow the Head of State and Prince Edward will attend a ceremony to pay tribute to those who died in World War I, which will be held in the Central Sofia Cemetery Park.
