President Rosen Plevneliev Held Talks with Terry Stamatopoulos, NATO Assistant Secretary General

At a meeting held with Terry Stamatopoulos, NATO assistant secretary general for Political Affairs and Security Policy, Rosen Plevneliev invited NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen to visit Bulgaria.

The Head of State and the NATO assistant secretary general exchanged opinions on issues on NATO’s agenda and shared the opinion that the regional approach should be enhanced when purchasing new and improving the already existing capabilities of the NATO member states. Rosen Plevneliev and Terry Stamatopoulos unanimously agreed that Bulgaria, Greece, Romania and Turkey could achieve a lot more if they adopt a common approach when implementing the initiatives of the Alliance.

The President reiterated that to be more efficient, the NATO member states should identify their potential to specialize in the collective security system and direct their efforts to ensuring closer cooperation. The Head of State also highlighted the need to speed up the technological modernization and building up the capabilities of the Bulgarian Armed Forces.
