2014-03-31 16:59:00

“Closer cooperation and sharing resources between the NATO member-states are the mechanisms for building collective capabilities for defense,” Rosen Plevneliev said, who held talks today with Victoria Nuland, Assistant Secretary of State for European and Euroasian Affairs at 2 Dondukov street. Rosen Plevneliev was adamant that the current financial restrictions imposed on Bulgaria and her neighboring countries require a more active support for the principles of Smart Defense.

The two shared the opinion that in the past ten years since joining NATO, Bulgaria has proved to be a reliable partner in the Alliance. Victoria Nuland reiterated the US support for modernizing the Bulgarian army.

Rosen Plevneliev and Victoria Nuland voiced their hope that stability in Ukraine will be restored by building strong institutions that meet the expectations of the civil society for ensuring greater efficiency and transparency in the government of the country.

Connecting the transport and energy infrastructure of the Southeast European countries ensures stability and is a factor for attracting more investments in the region, it was further pointed out at the meeting. The need of diversification of the energy sources by building inter-connectors between the countries in the region was also emphasized.

At the meeting President Plevneliev voiced his hope that the visa restrictions for the Bulgarians traveling to the United States will soon be lifted.
