Announcement of the Press Secretariat of the Head of State

2014-03-06 18:41:00
Regarding the development of the situation in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the Press Secretariat of the Head of State is authorized to disseminate the following position of the President:

The decisions of the Supreme Council of Crimea for the autonomous republic to  join the Russian Federation and for conducting a referendum on this issue constitute a violation not only of international law, but also of the Ukrainian constitution.  Such decisions by no means facilitate easing the tension in Ukraine and overcoming the split of the Ukrainian society.

The Head of State calls on for finding a political solution to the crisis by holding a dialogue in which all interested sides should participate in compliance with the Ukrainian legislation and international law.

The only solution, not only for Ukraine, but also for the whole region is one that is based on preserving the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
