Statement made by the Head of State on the occasion of the decision made by the EU Council to include Hizballah´s military wing in the EU list of terrorist organizations

2013-07-22 15:34:00

Today the Council of Foreign Ministers of the EU made the decision to include Hizballah´s military wing in the EU list of terrorist organizations. I welcome this decision which is the result of the joint efforts of the EU member states and the partnership services which ensure the citizens´security. It is also based on the in-depth analysis of a great amount of information about the activity of people related to terrorist activity on the territory of the EU.

Nobody should downplay the EU´s determination to ensure the security of its citizens and of those staying on its territory. Europe showed that it is uncompromising toward anyone who makes an attempt at the life of innocent citizens and threatens their security. Today´s decision is also a strong signal that the European Union will continue to work together with the Lebanese institutions and to support the democratic processes in the country.
