PLAMEN SLAVOV
Plamen Slavov was born on 20 May 1961 in Asenovgrad and graduated from a secondary school in Karlovo, central Bulgaria. He studied at the University of Veliko Tarnovo till 1985. He graduated from the University of SS Cyril and Methodius, where he received a master's degree in history. In 1991 he received his doctorate from the Institute of Religious Studies of the Academy of Social Sciences in Moscow.
From 1991 to 1997 he worked as a history teacher at the Hristo Prodanov high school in Karlovo. Since 2005 he has been a lecturer at the Paisii Hilendarski University of Plovdiv and the Higher School of Security and Economics in Plovdiv, where he is an associate professor of history of religions and national security.
He is the author of two monographs on pilgrimage in Orthodoxy and Islam, scientific publications on the history of religions, ethnoreligious relations in Bulgaria, the Bulgarian state and registered religions, and national security.
Municipal Councillor and Chairman of the Municipal Council of Karlovo (1995-1997). Deputy Mayor of Karlovo Municipality for Education, Culture and Social Activities (2001-2003).
Member of the 38th, 40th and 42nd National Assemblies, where he was a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Education and Science and of the Parliamentary Committee on Religious Affairs, of which he was Chairman in 2013-2014. In the National Assembly, he has been a member of the Interparliamentary Orthodox Assembly.
From May to December 2021 he was Deputy Minister of Culture in the caretaker governments.
Appointed Culture, Spiritual Development and National Identity Secretary of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria by Presidential Decree as of 6 January 2022.
He held the position of Deputy Minister of Culture in the two caretaker governments of President Radev from 2 August 2022 and from 3 February 2023.
Appointed as Advisor on culture by a President’s decree as of July 2023.
Speaks Russian and English.
Married with two children.
