Rosen Plevneliev: Those countries in which there are strong institutions, not strong people are strong

„I do hope that the Bulgarian politicians, I include myself in this category, will not miss the historical chance and will not fall into disgrace by refusing to reach for the hand the citizens have extended for change.” This is what President Rosen Plevneliev said when launching the European Commission Citizen Dialogue initiative, which will be held today in the Central Military Club in Sofia. The Head of State and Vivian Redding, deputy chief of the EC opened the debate which is part of the dialogues of the EC with the Europeans in the European year of the citizens and ahead of the forthcoming elections for European Parliament in 2014.

The monitoring mechanism of PACE should no longer be applied

At a meeting held with Jean-Claude Mignon, president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, President Rosen Plevneliv said that the post-monitoring dialogue between PACE and Bulgaria should no longer be applied. Jean-Claude Mignon is visiting Sofia to participate in the 41st session of the Parliamentary Assembly for Black Sea Economic Cooperation.

The Head of State: The countries from the Black Sea region should strive to achieve connectedness and reach long-term decisions for future cooperation

Under the conditions of crisis the countries from the Black Sea region should seek common ideas for development whereby they would compensate their limited national resources. The real success of the regional cooperation will depend on the ability to formulate a long-term strategy for the future of the Black Sea region. This is what President Rosen Plevneliev said in his speech delivered at the opening ceremony of the 41st meeting of the general assembly of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation.
